Hello everyone!!!
I am writing this as of Feb 18, 2025 and the artists in the pilot program are in Module 3 of the academy. We started on Dec 1, 2014, with 8 artists of differing backgrounds in their marketing experience and years of selling art professionally.
If you are reading this and you don't know what I am talking about, take a look at these blog posts.
Back to what's going on now....Module 3 which is alllll the research you need to do before launching a website and creating a marketing system.
To make this stage more structured and manageable, I divided the research into six parts:
Module 3: The Research Process
Understanding Your Collectors: Identifying your audience beyond demographics and getting into their mindset to better position your work.
Building Your Brand Archetype: Defining your artistic identity and aligning it with the right messaging.
Creating Your Sales Funnel: Mapping out how potential collectors discover, engage with, and ultimately purchase your work.
Crafting Your Messaging: Developing clear and compelling communication that resonates with your audience.
Keyword Research: Finding and refining search terms to improve visibility on search engines.
Structuring Website Pages: Organizing content and navigation to support marketing goals and sales conversion.
The research stage is essential, not just for building a website but for ensuring that you first consider who you are talking to, why you are talking to them, how you speak to them and how to get them onto your website.
Without a solid foundation, a website is just another online portfolio with no strategy to bring in traffic or convert visitors into buyers.
How the Module Is Structured
To ensure this information is digestible and actionable, I have structured Module 3 with both live and pre-recorded sessions:
Parts A & B (Understanding Collectors and Brand Archetype) were covered in a Zoom meeting where artists worked through exercises together.
Parts C & D (Sales Funnel and Messaging) were also tackled in another live session, with guided prompts and workbook exercises.
Parts E & F (Keyword Research and Website Structuring) are pre-recorded since keyword research is an extensive process that requires independent work.

Each live session lasted three hours, where we worked through the 121-page workbook section for Module 4. Given the depth of keyword research and website structuring, these will require more time, so the pilot artists will be completing them at their own pace before the next module begins.
Adjustments to the Schedule
At this point, many of the artists are balancing personal and professional responsibilities while progressing through the academy. Research takes time, and while marketing frameworks can be outlined in a course, the work of gathering and applying insights is highly individualized.
Because of this, the schedule has been adjusted by a week, allowing for a spring break period to give artists time to process the material, complete their research, and prepare for Module 4—where they will launch their websites.
This flexibility is built into the program because launching a website is not just about having the right design; it is about being fully prepared with a structured plan, a defined audience, and a marketing system in place.
How Long Does the Academy Take?
The Artist’s Launch Academy is a comprehensive program. It is not a crash course or a simple step-by-step tutorial on website setup. It is designed to equip artists with the knowledge, tools, and strategy to create a sustainable marketing system that supports their career long-term.
On average, it takes 5-6 months to complete if an artist can dedicate 8 hours per week to studying, planning, and implementing the lessons. The depth of the curriculum ensures that by the end of the academy, artists are not only launching a website but positioning themselves for long-term success in selling their work online.
