There is no marketing art education out there...

That’s why I’m testing Artist's Launch Academy with 10 artists and recording the entire process.

How I approached creating this art marketing education platform like a researcher?

My background is not in marketing. 

It's in research and pattern identification. 

My formal education is in research when I find something that doesn't make sense. After that first meeting and not understanding why this talented artist isn't selling art, I started to research. I first went online to discover only 3 different art marketing education that is centered around one specific marketing channels, not a complete marketing system. 

That's when I decided to message and connect with artists across the United States to ask them how they are currently marketing their art. They all took an intensive survey that allowed me to get a sample survey about how emerging artists are selling their art and how they think through their marketing planning system. 

After I did that research, I created my curriculum and chose 10 artists to test it on December 1, 2024.

Based on my research, less than 1% of the 5 million+ visual artists in the United States have a complete, functioning marketing strategy. 

This is not theory, this is a real deficient in the investment in teaching artists how to sell your art independently.

Key Finding on Art Marketing Education

Over 100+ conversations and 8 months of pilot program research revealed, my education actually does solve the problem of artists not selling their art!

These 6 key findings is not assumptions, they are based on nearly 2 years of research. These are patterns that I learned about artists marketing education gap that my academy fills. 

Finding 1

artists cannot apply complex marketing system

When I asked artists to create a marketing campaign with multiple different strategies and channels, most answered "I don't know how I would do that". In fact, a little over 50% of artists could not answer this question. That's why I put an entire lesson in Module 1 dedicated to answering this question first. 

Finding 2

Social media is being treated as an entire sales system.

Around 81% of artists use their social media to sell their art, meaning posts and having collectors DM them to purchase the art they post. 

This is not a sustainable system that leads to an evolving art business. 

Finding 3

Artist with a website do not understand SeO

Across the board, Search Engine Optimization was the least confident marketing strategy by every artists that took my survey. 

But art sales online are increasing, so I dedicated an entire module to just SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization or AI). 

Finding 4

Artists do not know who they are selling to.

When I asked artists to describe who buys their art in a paragraph, they found it rather difficult. By the end of Module 3, you will know exactly who your collectors are and where they show up online or in person. 

Finding 5

When given structure, artists thrive in creating a marketing system. 

Once 10 artists entered into the pilot program, they were quick studies! We have recently shifted to coaching after they launched their website and are feeling more confident! Ginger Martinez has been in my coaching program for 2 months and is doing incredibly!

Finding 6

The Overwhelm is real without structure.

I started this academy to be far more dense than it is now. Originally started with 7 modules, some artists in the pilot program had to drop off due to the density of information. 

They all fell off either Module 3 or 4 so I decided to cut the core curriculum to 4 Modules and the original content in Module 5-7 will be in microlabs. The structure was created based on real people living real lives.
